Underground Utilities Progress. Next: More Truck Traffic

We've been busy installing underground utilities at the site of the new Music Performance Hall for the past few weeks. Most of this work has had little impact on the campus.

Beginning the week of Feb. 20, there will be an increase in activity as we begin the mass excavation for the building. You can expect...

1. Increased truck traffic, especially in Lot A at the Arts Center, Lot Q at the Golisano Academic Center, and at the Music House. To increase your safety during construction:
  • Be aware of your surroundings when driving or walking through these lots
  • Drive slowly through the parking lots
  • When walking, be aware and use your senses. Do not use headphones or be absorbed in your cell phone/texting.
2. To minimize truck traffic through campus, the driveway to Lot Q (GAC) off of East Ave will be closed to all non-construction traffic for several weeks. This is the northernmost entrance to campus. The excavated material from the Performance Hall will be used at the site of the new training center. This driveway will be used as a construction driveway only. It will close on Monday, February 20 and reopen near the end of March.

As always, thanks for your patience during these projects. I am attempting to minimize the impacts to the campus throughout the construction. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Music Performance Hall Site Work Begins

Construction of the new music performance hall will start in March. (Read more about the project.)

Some site work needs to take place over the break to minimize disruptions for the campus. We will do our best to minimize these as we move forward with the construction. Here is a summary of how the construction may impact campus:
  • As of December 19, 2016, parking lot B will be permanently closed. People using this lot are asked to park in the larger Lot A. (Lot B will not reappear after construction is completed.)
  • Between December 19 and December 30, utilities will be brought from the current Arts Center to the new hall and scrub tree (black locusts) removal will take place.
    • A construction fence will be erected at the north end of Lot A. This will limit some parking during this time period.
    • Access to the Arts Center lobby will still be available via the sidewalk.
    • Wilmot Hall should be accessed through the Arts Center lobby.
    • RTS service at the Arts Center will be rerouted.
  • After December 30, until spring 2018: The construction fence will be relocated to a small area of Lot A near the Casa Italiana. A small number of parking spaces will be effected by this construction area.
This will be an exciting project for Nazareth College. I will provide updates as construction continues.
